Accommodation Services

Accommodation Services includes business licences for:

  • renting or leasing suites or rooms in a hotel, motel, rooming house, apartment building or short-term rentals.
  • renting or leasing spaces in a mobile home park or campground.
  • renting or leasing a suite on a lot containing a single-family dwelling and a residential suite.

Accommodation Services does not include property maintenance or management businesses or land developers. If you are a property maintenance or management business or a land developer, please apply for a licence under the General and Personal Services grouping. To view a list of the other business licence groupings, please visit the Apply for a Business Licence page.

A business licence is required for short-term rentals (less than 30 days) and monthly rentals less than 90 days advertised on a short-term rental platform, consistent with provincial short-term rental rules. Short-term rental hosts in Kamloops must display a valid business licence number on their listings. If a listing does not comply with the City’s business licence requirements, the short-term rental platform must remove the listing at the City’s request. Note: accommodation services may be subject to provincial short-term rental legislation and require registration with the province. Please see the provincial website regarding short-term rental accommodation for more information.

Note: For business licence applications for renting or leasing a suite on a lot containing a single-family dwelling and a residential suite, the City of Kamloops Business Licence and Regulation Bylaw (No. 9-60) prescribes that a Good Neighbour Agreement (GNA) is signed annually. You will be provided with a copy to sign before your application can be approved and will be provided with another copy annually, along with your renewal.
