Special and One-time Events - Organizer

A Special and One-time Events - Organizer licence is required for organizers of special and one-time events like neighbourhood events, block parties, festivals, outdoor concerts, cultural performances, trade shows, temporary precious metal buying, carnivals, dog shows, awareness walks, sports events, and other one-time public events.

Where the organizing body, or “organizer”, plans to provide any product or service for or at the event for profit or gain at their event (including ticket sales) and/or plans to invite vendors who provide any product or service for or at the event for profit or gain, the organizer must obtain a licence for the event. The organizer licence fee is $112.20

It does not include licences for organizers of recurring events that take place at a permanent, fixed location or for vendors who plan to attend an event. To view a list of the other business licence groupings, please visit the Apply for a Business Licence page.

Please note:

  • If the event is small and the organizing body does not plan to provide any product or service for or at the event for profit or gain at their event (including ticket sales) but does plan to invite vendors who provide any product or service for or at the event for profit or gain, the organizing body is still required to obtain a business licence for the event to cover all attending vendors.
  • It’s the organizer’s responsibility to ensure that all attending vendors apply for and obtain appropriate business licensing for the event, prior to the event.
  • For the health and safety of the public, when an organizer invites any vendor who prepares or processes then dispenses or serves food, drink, or any other product for human consumption, or who provides a personal service (a service to or on the body of another person, and includes but is not limited to: a barber shop, beauty parlour, health spa, massage parlour, tattoo shop, sauna and steam bath; but does not include Adult Services), regardless of whether the organizer obtains a licence specific to the event, those vendors will require licensing specific to the event.
  • Any Mobile Food Vendor who is already on the Approved Mobile Food Vendor list in Kamloops for the current calendar year is exempt from obtaining additional licensing for an event. If the Mobile Food Vendor in question is not on the Approved Mobile Food Vendor list in Kamloops for the current calendar year, please have them contact the business licence section at business@kamloops.ca or call 250-828-3481 to ensure that their licensing requirements can be met prior to the event.
